Midioli is a PC program for processing MIDI files, used in the production of mechanical music.

Midioli provides stencil printing facilities for mechanical music arrangers, who wish to produce traditional punched music books or rolls. This is usually a very laborious task, especially if the music is being arranged directly to the card or paper roll. Midioli allows a MIDI arrangement to be converted directly into a printed stencil, which may then be transferred directly to the medium in use.

Creating a MIDI file is usually done in ‘Cakewalk’ (sequencer) or ‘Noteworthy Composer’ (notation editor), to name the two most popular programs, as these provide the best editing in General MIDI (GM) formats, however, once Midioli has converted a GM file to a ‘mechanical’ format e.g. Gavioli, it is capable of editing the music using its ‘piano roll’ editing facilities.
It should be mentioned that neither Cakewalk or Noteworthy provide any stencil printing functions.

If you try to play a ‘mechanical’ scale MIDI file on Windows without using the correct mapping, strange sounds are usually emitted from your loudspeakers! Midioli provides facilities to ‘label’ keys and to map them correctly for its built in sound player.
By using its ‘Scale Database’, you can quickly identify each key in a scale by its actual name, for example ‘Melody C#5’ instead of simply ‘Key 27’.
